Snowboarding is a risky sport and every rider, board and mountain is different. Here is what our guides can and cannot do for you.
Snowboarding involves risk
Snowboarding can lead to serious injury or death, from falls, collisions, equipment failure, terrain features, weather and snow conditions. You ride at your own risk. Stay in control, ride terrain that suits your ability, obey signs and closures, and follow the responsibility code used at the area where you ride.
Guides are not lessons
Our lessons explain what to expect and what to practice. They cannot see how you move, correct your stance or judge whether terrain suits you. Learn with a qualified instructor, and never treat reading a guide as permission to move to steeper runs, the terrain park or the backcountry. Riding outside a resort boundary requires avalanche training, rescue equipment and experienced partners or a qualified guide; see our backcountry orientation for starting points.
Equipment, setup and repairs
Board sizes, binding settings, wax temperatures and repair methods vary by product. Our guides explain the general process and how to read your equipment’s own documentation; where our guide and a manufacturer’s instructions differ, follow the manufacturer. Incorrectly mounted bindings or badly done repairs can fail while you ride. If you’re unsure, have a qualified shop technician do or check the work. Customizing or repairing equipment yourself may affect its warranty.
Health and fitness
Nothing on this site is medical advice. If you have a health condition, injury, pregnancy or any doubt about your fitness to ride, ask a medical professional before snowboarding. Advice about cold weather is general; follow official weather warnings and resort decisions.
Prices, policies and time-sensitive information
Where guides quote prices, fees, baggage rules, age policies or certification requirements, those details come from the official source named on the page and carry the date we checked them. They change often and differ by date, location and provider. Always confirm the current terms directly before you book, buy or travel.
Photos
Photographs illustrate the setting and equipment. They are not verified demonstrations of correct technique or safe practice.
No affiliate links, advertising or sponsorship
How to Snowboard currently earns nothing from the products, brands, resorts or services it mentions. There are no affiliate links, paid placements or advertisements, and brands are named only because they publish useful instructions or data. If this changes, affected pages will clearly disclose the relationship before any commercial link appears.
